Category: Initial setup | Updated: 5/24/2010 9:47:43 AM | Read: 1988 (Last: 9/5/2010 8:40:39 AM)

DNS Redirector v7.x has a native service executable (dnsrsvc.exe) that requires no 3rd party software.
Note: When running as a service the GUI is not available.

To install the service for the first time, run dnsrsvc-install.bat and follow the on-screen instructions.

When DONE! appears go to...
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > open "DNS Redirector"
Set Startup type: Automatic
- or do this via command-line: sc config dnsredir start= auto

Optionally...
On the "Recovery" tab set all three drop-down boxes to "Restart the Service"

Then Start the service
- or do this via command-line: sc start dnsredir

Legacy options to run as a service...

- Use FireDaemon

- Use Scheduled Tasks to run at logon under the System account
2000/XP/2003: Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks
Vista/Server 2008: Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler

...with these methods, define the program as C:\DNSREDIR\dnsredir.exe and the start in or working directory as C:\DNSREDIR
